I store my archived video on a Windows Home Server 2011 system. So Microsoft is right in discontinuing WMC because it is not a made-for-dummies solution. And work like serverwmc does with kodi. I don't pay for any cable boxes in my setup. Zepid LinuxMCE and MythTV are the alternatives you want if you need the CableCard DVR functions. Users are left on their own. In July 29, Windows 10 will have Continuum.
fozzi58 There are some tools out there like handbrake that work with MCE. I've used both the Emby WMC plugin, as well as the standard Emby Theatre application. WMC will be alive until there is no guide data. Its a little bit of work to get it set up, but once you do you save the config and it runs forever. I've been using it for 2 years. There's also an existing service that charges only about $25/year.
