I used Macecraft jv16 powertools software as it was recomended by Kapersky. The second machine is used as a media player and has Windows, Chrome, Adobe Reader and Norton installed. I found that if I just left it hanging it eventually would resolve (after around 5 min?), but then it only detects one of the 4 tuners. Also open up Task Manager on startup (if possible) to see what is keeping your system occupied. I found my way to a choice of three system restore points, none of which was before this started.
