Yes, viruses can actually corrupt the BIOS and render a PC completely unbootable, hence Gigabytes Dual BIOSes and the option to disable FLash BIOS in the BIOS setup. am currently running Mint 17.3 (Cinnamon) and all 3 partitions are encrypted (root, swap, home). It comes with updated software and brings refinements and many new features to make your desktop even more comfortable to use.
Go to the "Appearance & Fixes" tab. I love Cinnamon so we'll see. Also the translation (polish) i quite poor still. It was convenient to know where we were.
